Material guide
A guide to artificial grass
Artificial grass flooring is a carpet of green synthetic blades made to look like a lawn, also sold as artificial grass mats and turf. It brings a green floor to terraces, balconies, play areas and indoor corners. Inlife shows it in 25 mm, 35 mm and 45 mm thicknesses.
Artificial grass, also called synthetic grass or turf, is a carpet of green synthetic blades made to look like a lawn. It brings a green floor to terraces, balconies, play areas and indoor corners where a real lawn is not practical.
What it is
Artificial grass is made of synthetic fibres tufted into a backing, in roll form. The blades are cut to a set pile height and coloured in mixed greens, often with a few curled, paler fibres at the base to imitate the thatch of a real lawn. The result is soft underfoot and evenly green.
Pile heights
Pile height is the length of the blades, and it changes both the look and the feel. Inlife carries three:
- 25 mm
- A short, neat lawn. Suits balconies, indoor floors, office breakout areas and shop displays.
- 35 mm
- A fuller, medium lawn for terraces, rooftops and garden corners.
- 45 mm
- A deep, lush pile that looks closest to a well-kept garden lawn.
Where it suits
- Terraces and rooftops
- A green floor for seating, planters and gatherings.
- Balconies
- A small lawn where there is no soil.
- Play areas
- Schools, crèches and home play corners.
- Landscaped corners
- Around pools, paths, planters and water features.
- Indoor spaces
- Cafés, office breakout areas, event stages and retail displays.
- Sports and recreation
- Putting corners and casual play areas at home.
Designing with grass
Grass looks most natural with real planting nearby: potted palms, climbers or a hedge line. Edge it with timber decking, stone pavers or pebbles so it looks like a lawn and not a mat. On a terrace, a defined rectangle of grass framed by deck or tile often looks better than wall-to-wall turf.
Indoors, a short pile works as a playful zone within a hard floor, for a children's corner or a café terrace.
Floor grass or grass wall?
Floor grass is made to be walked on, with a pile cut for a lawn. The artificial grass wall is a separate range for vertical green: dense foliage and leaf mats for balconies, cafés and feature walls. Many terraces use both.
Choosing a pile
Choose the pile by the space and how it will be used. Short piles look neat and trim; deeper piles look lusher. Feel the three heights side by side at the Inlife Experience Centre in Choolai before you decide.
