Material guide
A guide to wooden flooring
Wooden flooring is a plank floor with a wood surface. At Inlife it comes as laminate, with a printed wood image on an HDF core, and as engineered wood, with a real hardwood surface on HDF. Planks are straight, V-groove or herringbone, in oak, pine, walnut, teak, merbau and jatoba looks.
Wooden flooring at Inlife comes in two forms: laminate, which carries a photographic wood image on an HDF core, and engineered wood, which has a real hardwood surface. Both suit living rooms, bedrooms and offices; the choice comes down to look and feel.
Laminate wooden flooring
Laminate planks are built in layers: a high-density fibreboard (HDF) core, a high-resolution wood décor and a clear wear layer on top. Because the décor is an image, laminate can show almost any wood species and colour, with an embossed texture that follows the grain.
Inlife laminate is 8.3 mm thick, in planks of 1218 x 198 mm, 1215 x 196 mm and 1215 x 143 mm, with straight and V-groove edges.
Engineered wooden flooring
Engineered planks have a top layer of real hardwood bonded to a core. You see and feel genuine timber, with its own grain, knots and colour that varies from plank to plank. Choose it when only real wood will do.
Herringbone
Herringbone planks, 603 x 127 mm, are laid in the classic zig-zag. It is the most formal way to lay a wood floor, and it works in period-style rooms as well as plain modern ones.
Wood looks
- Oak
- Natural, grey and white oaks with a fine, even grain. The easiest to match with other finishes.
- Walnut
- Dark browns with a long, flowing grain.
- Teak
- Golden-honey tones, long familiar in Indian homes.
- Pine
- Pale with visible knots, for a Scandinavian or rustic room.
- Merbau and jatoba
- Deep reddish-browns for formal, traditional rooms.
Laminate or engineered?
Choose laminate for the widest range of looks and an even floor. Choose engineered when you want real wood, with every plank a little different. Walk on both at the Experience Centre in Choolai; the difference is easiest to judge underfoot.
