Questions
What are backlit premium panels made of?
An HDHMR backing with a membrane wrap and a soft finish, 8 to 14 mm thick.
What sizes are available?
Sizes are customised. Mandala panels are 1200 x 2400 mm; Lumera designs are planned in 1200 mm modules for 8 x 8 ft or 8 x 9.5 ft walls.
What is the Lumera collection?
Lumera is the light-integrated collection: ten designs where the lit lines form the pattern, such as Arch, Orbit, Moon and Wave.
How are they different from backlit alabaster?
Alabaster sheets are translucent acrylic lit evenly from behind. Premium panels are solid HDHMR designs where light is part of the pattern.

Material guide
A guide to backlit premium panels
Backlit premium panels are decorative wall panels built on an HDHMR backing and finished with a membrane wrap. Some are artistic carved designs; others have light worked into the pattern itself, so the wall becomes the light feature.
What they are
The panels are 8 to 14 mm thick, with a soft-finish membrane over HDHMR. Sizes are customised to the wall, and the designs are drawn in 1200 mm modules.
Three collections
- Mandala
- 21 artistic panels, 1200 x 2400 mm, with carved, ornamental patterns in deep colours, warm neutrals and greys.
- Lumera
- Ten light-integrated designs in 1200 mm modules, laid out for walls of 8 x 8 ft or 8 x 9.5 ft. Names describe the line of light: Arch, Bevel, Flow, Moon, Orbit, Strike, Stripe, Temple and Wave.
- Leder
- Soft-touch panels, Collar and Wave, for a quieter upholstered look.
Where it suits
- Living rooms
- A TV wall or a feature wall where the light replaces a lamp.
- Bedrooms
- Behind the bed, as a lit headboard wall.
- Puja rooms
- Arch and temple forms with a gentle glow.
- Receptions and lounges
- Backdrops in hotels, clinics and offices.
Designing with it
Let the panel be the main light on that wall and keep other lights low. Warm neutrals sit well with timber and cane; deep colours and greys suit darker, more dramatic rooms. One lit wall is usually enough.
Choosing a design
Start with the size of the wall, since Lumera designs are laid out to full wall heights. Bring a photo of the room or the drawings to the Experience Centre in Choolai, Chennai, and we will set the options out side by side. Samples can also be sent to offices in Chennai for viewing.
Complete the room
Wall, floor and ceiling, chosen together.
